Books on introduction to industrial engineering are not many. Personally, I advocate that industrial engineering has three component areas.

Human Effort Engineering
Systems Efficiency Engineering
Systems Design, Installation and Improvement Management

The above three components can be applied in domain of engineering, in any industry or in any function of an organization. Hence discussion of production systems, marketing systems, transportation systems etc. must be under a separate head to be titled as introduction to industrial or organizational systems. Methodologies have to classfied under three components mentioned above and appropriate discussion on how the methodologies fit into the component area has to be given.
